Lindisfarne featuring Busker – Home Newcastle

Ah had te come te London,
Coz ah couldn’t find ay job,
But ah don’t intend te stay long,
If ah make ay few quick bob

It’s cold up there it Summer,
It’s like sitting inside ay fridge,
But ah wish ah was on the Quayside,
Looking at the owld Tyne Bridge

Ahm coming home Newcastle,
Ah might as well ay been in jail,
Ahd walk the streets al day al neet,
For ay bottle ay ye own Brown Ale,
Ahm coming home Newcastle,
If ye never win the Cup again,
Ahl brave the dark at St. James’s Park,
At the Gallowgate End in the rain,
Ahm coming home…

And ahm proud te be ay Geordie,
And te live in Geordie land,
Some people think wi bowdy,
And wi hard te understand,
And they say it’s just self pitty,
And wi not so very tough,
Coz the people in the big fat City,
Haven’t had it half as rough,

Ahm coming home Newcastle,
Ye can keep ye London wine,
Ahd walk the streets al day al neet,
For ay bottle ay the River Tyne,
Ahm coming home Newcastle,
Ah wish ahd never been away,
Ahd kiss the ground for the welcome sound,
Of me mother saying hinny howay,
Ahm coming home…

And ah miss the auld blind busker,
Who stands at Fenwicks door,
He plays ay mean accordion,
Ye’ve arl seen him there before

And ah love the Geordie heroes,
There’s so many famous names,
Like Lindisfarne and Gazza,
Brendan Foster and the Gateshead games

Ahm coming home Newcastle,
Ah might as well ay been in jail,
Ahd walk the streets al day al neet,
For ay bottle ay ye own Brown Ale,
Ahm coming home Newcastle,
If ye never win the Cup again,
Ahl brave the dark at St. James’s Park,
At the Gallowgate End in the rain

Ahm coming home Newcastle,
Ye can keep ye London wine,
Ahd walk the streets al day al neet,
For ay bottle ay the River Tyne,
Ahm coming home Newcastle,

We Will follow United

HOWAY THE LADS, HOWAY THE LADS
Well we play in white & Black,
And we’re deadly in attack,
We’re the most United team in all the land

You can hear the Geordie roar,
Everytime the Magpies score,
We’re the most United team in all the land

We’ve made it all the way to play at Wembley,
Oh yes we’ve proved we’re on the up and up,
We’ve made it all the way to play at Wembley,
And Keegan’s boys are gonna win the Cup,
We’re the most United team in all the land,
We’re the most United team in all the land

We’ve made it all the way to play at Wembley,
We’re gonna show the world what we can do,
We’ve made it all the way to play at Wembley,
Now watch us bring the Cup back home to you

Well we Magpies are the kings,
When we’re flying down the wings,
We’re the most United team in all the land

And with Keegan at the top,
We will fight until we drop,
We’re the most United team in all the land

Well we play in white & Black,
And we’re deadly in attack,
We’re the most United team in all the land

You can hear the Geordie roar,
Everytime the Magpies score,
We’re the most United team in all the land,
We’re the most United team in all the land,
We’re the most United team in all the land

Geordie in Wonderland

now that I’ve changed and the rest have all stayed
well, why do I feel so confused?
some of the best of me plans have been laid
and some of me best moments used
I’ve been out for the count in a Mexican bar-o
stranded in nowhere with a-nothing but me
ah, lads, I did(n’t) understand – I’m a Geordie in Wonderland

some of the shit has sprouted in roses
and some of the roses have died
forced by meself to follow conviction
and ignore what I’m missing inside
I’ve been loved by the sweetest and hated by heroes
life’s still (a) surprise and the friends come and go
ah, lads, I did(n’t) understand – I’m a Geordie in Wonderland

(whoop-whoop, whoop-whoop)

I’ve had praise I’ve had ridicule, either meant nothing
faced with the task of tomorrow’s demands
oh, lads, I didn’t understand – I’m a Geordie in Wonderland
oh, lads, I didn’t understand – I’m a Geordie in Wonderland
(whoop-whoop)
oh, lads, I didn’t understand – I’m a Geordie in Wonderland

Blaydon Races

I went to Blaydon races
Twas on the 9th of June
Eighteen Hundred and Sixty Two
On a summer’s afternoon
I took the bus from Balmbras
And she was heavy laden
Away we went along Collingwood Street
To see the race at Blaydon

Chorus:
Oh me lads, you should’ve seen us gannin
Passing the folks along the road
And all of them were starin’
All the lads and lasses there
They all had smilin’ faces
Gannin along the Scotswood Road
To see the Blaydon races

We flew past Armstrong’s factory
And up by the Robin Adair
But gannin ower the Railway Bridge
The bus wheel flew off there
The lasses lost their crinolenes
And veils that hide their faces
I got two black eyes and a broken nose
In gannin to Blaydon races

Chorus

Now when we got the wheel back on
Away we went again
But them that had their noses broke
They went back ower hyem
Some went to the dispensary
And some to Doctor Gibbs
And some to the infirmary
To mend their broken ribs

Chorus

We flew across the Chain Bridge
Reet into Blaydon Toon
The barman he was calling then
They called him Jackie Broon
I saw him talking to some chaps
And them he was persuadin’
To gan and see Geordie Ridley’s show
At the Mechanics’ Hall in Blaydon

Chorus

Now when we got to Paradise
There were bonny games begun
There were four and twenty on the bus
And how we danced and sung
They called on me to sing a song
So I sang ’em ‘Paddy Fagan’
I danced a jig and I swung me twig
The day I went to Blaydon

Chorus

The rain it poured down all the day
And made the ground quite muddy
Coffee Johnny had a white hat on
The old wife stole a cuddy
There were spice stalls and monkey shows
And old wives selling ciders
And the chap on the ha’penny roundabout
Saying ‘Any more lads for riders?
