MADRID (Reuters) - Deportivo Coruna should be prepared to sell Spanish international forward Albert Luque to Newcastle United if the price is right, says club coach Joaquin Caparros.

"Although Luque does feature in my plans I would understand if the club decided to sell him if they got a good offer because we are in a delicate financial position at the moment," Caparros was quoted as sating in sports daily El Mundo Deportivo on Saturday.

"The way I think about it is that if we get a really good bid we should sell him because we can use the money to buy some young players who want to make their name at the club."

Mulig Depo har litt mer penger å rutte med enn Sporting og Celta Vigo, men jeg tror ikke dette blir noe av. Ene og alene fordi man vurderer å kvitte seg med Viana som en del av avtalen.

Chairman Freddy Shepherd burned the midnight oil last night as Newcastle United moved closer to completing the signing of Albert Luque from Deportivo La Coruna.

And the news from Spain's influential newspaper Marca today was that the two clubs were "very close" to an agreement for the 27-year-old Spanish international who says he would love to line up alongside Alan Shearer in a black-and-white shirt.

Indeed, my information is that United's offer on the table at the Riazor Stadium is £7.5m, just £500,000 short of La Coruna's valuation of their prize asset.

And United know that once they can agree a fee with La Coruna then Luque already has his bags packed ready to fly to Newcastle.

For the Chronicle can reveal that Luque has already told United he is happy with the financial terms they have offered him and he is ready to sign a five-year contract at St James' Park.

Luque has also informed them that one of the reasons he wants to join United is so he can line up alongside Shearer in the legendary skipper's last season in United's No 9 shirt.

Luque said: "English football is excellent and I have no doubt that I could play in the Premiership. My character will suit English football and the supporters will be happy with my style and the goals I would score."

United have heard from Spain that La Coruna are close to finding a replacement for Luque and certainly the feeling at St James' Park is that they can have everything tied up early next week.

This would then leave them with a bit of a rush job to get Luque's international clearance so that he could go into the squad for Wednesday's game with Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium.

Ironically, that game was put back 24 hours from the Tuesday because Bolton are in Premiership action tomorrow and this may actually benefit United as far as Luque is concerned.

If the Luque deal does go through, it will be a huge relief to United after they missed out on Luis Boa Morte, Nicolas Anelka and Michael Owen.

United officials realise their fans have been disappointed that a quality striker has not been signed, something that was shown by the fact that the attendance was expected to be marginally short of capacity for today's game with West Ham at St James' Park - and that there is still a small number of season tickets for sale.

Albert Luque is disappointed he has not sealed a move to Newcastle yet, although a deal looks increasingly likely.

Deportivo La Coruna rejected Newcastle's opening bid of around £7.5 million earlier this week, but now The Magpies have returned with a bid close to £10 million and the Spanish giants are now open to letting the 27-year-old leave La Riazor.

Luque himself seems to be growing increasingly agitated that the move is not yet complete.

"I don't understand why Deportivo don't let me go if Newcastle are prepared to offer ?15 million (£10 million)," Luque told a news conference on Saturday.

"The original idea was that I should be presented by the club (Newcastle) today, but that is now going to be difficult because the (Deportivo) president (Augusto Cesar Lendoiro) isn't one to get up early.

"It is an interesting opportunity for me, but I'm still a Deportivo player and it is the president who has the last word.

"If I end up staying here I will have no problem with that and I will continue working with the same enthusiasm I've always had."

Luque, who moved to Deportivo in 2002 for ?15 million, now looks to be on his way to Tyneside and will end manager Graeme Souness's long search for a new striker.

Newcastle will hope to complete the signing over the weekend, although it seems unlikely a deal will be in place in time for Tuesday's game with Portsmouth

 Men penger til å gi 5MP for Boa Morte, 8MP for Anelka eller 9MP for Luque, nei det har vi ikke...!! Vi har altså penger, men bare hvis vi får det største navnet.. Må da være mye bedre å få feks Boa Morte og Anelka for tilsammen ca 12MP i stedet for å by 12MP for Owen som vi uansett ikke får...

Altså nå har du fått litt feile fakta her, Fulham sa at Boa Morte ikke var for salg, uansett om vi bydde £10M, vi bydde faktisk opp til £8M for han. LBM er ikke verd så mye, jeg ville toppen gitt £4M for han, er ingenting spes med han, og vi kan finne en bedre ving en han.  Anelka skulle de ha £8.5M for, noe jeg godt skjønner FF ikke har løst å betale for en man som anelka!  Owen har de prislagt på £11M, men han har sagt at han skal se på tilbud fra MAn utd og Liverpool først.. for innerst inne har han ikke løst og komme hit.  

Er FF amatøren her, eller er det lista til souness som er litt på tryne?  Jeg synest heller vi skulle gå for 2 spisser istede for 1 til £10M.  Synest vi skulle prøve å gå for Kuyt, visst vi kan få han rundt £5M.

Backene sliter vi også med, baba er elendig, kan ikke plassere seg, tar masse dumme taklinger rundt og innafor 16 metern + at han alltid er skada.


Hvorfor kjøpe en dyr spiller i england, når vi kan få 2-3 spillere i utlandet som er like gode for samme prisen?

Albert Luque er et steg nærmere en overgang til Newcastle. Spanjolen er utelatt fra troppen som skal møte Marseille i Intertoto cup finalen.

Manager Joaquin Caparros hadde følgende å si om hvorfor ikke Luque var med i troppen:

?Situasjonen er slik i dag at vi ikke tar med Luque i denne viktige kampen.

Rafael som er faren til Albert Luque bekrefter at sønnen er svært nære en overgang til Newcastle:

?Albert er allerede enig med Newcastle om den personlige kontrakten, og etter det jeg vet er det ikke mye om å gjøre før klubbene også er enige.?

Deportivo president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro sier at klubbene ikke er helt enige enda, men det ser ut som det bare er spørsmål om tid før overgangen er et faktum.

La oss håpe at dette nå går i orden så fort som overhodet mulig, slik at vi kan ha Luque tilgjenglig til onsdagens kamp bort mot Bolton. Vi trenger forsterkninger framover på banen, og jo raskere vi får det, destod bedre er det!

Men ting har skjært seg før når en overgang har vært veldig nære, så jeg tørr ikke å slippe den helt store jubelen løs foreløpig. Har brent meg på å juble for tidlig litt for mange ganger før med Newcastle...
