Jeg tror at Hiddick kommer til å ta over England. Da vil jo O`neil og Hirtzfield være aktuelle for Newcastle. Dette er jo kongebra.
Hvis O`neil eller Hirtzfield tar over England, er jeg nokså sikker på at Hidick tar over castle, det er jo ingen andre store jobber som er ledige?
Uansett er alle disse 3 kandidtene meget meget gode manager.

Haha, ja, det tror jeg også.

Hvis det største problemet med O'Neill er at han er mackem, ja da må jeg si vi har et luksusproblem.
Når vi nå er på jakt etter en ny manager gir jeg blaffen i om vedkommende er Sunderland-supporter eller født og oppvokst på feil side av Manshitter. Jeg gir blaffen i om vedkommende sverger til Mersey i stedet for river Tyne. Så lenge vi får en manager som kan gjøre oss til et bedre fotballag, så er jeg fornøyd.

Men for all del, det hadde selvsagt vært hyggelig om vi kunne fått en geordie som elsker offensiv fotball. Men jeg tror vi har prøvd den typen før, og sparket dem. En av dem var til og med en av de mest meritterte og mest respekterte managerne i Europa. Han presterte vi å gi fyken på grunnlag av litt problemer med enkelte spillere, en gryende altzheimer og en femteplass i PL som dårligste resultat i løpet av sin tid i klubben. Så jeg er redd vi må vente til en viss Alan Shearer er rede, før vi kan begynne å tro på Messias igjen. Men Newcastle kan reddes også uten en lokal messias. Og for min del kan vår nye manager godt være mackem, så lenge han er en dyktig manager. Og det kan ingen bestride at O'Neill er.

Q and A: Hitzfeld For The Toon

Supporters of Newcastle United have been taking part in a campaign to try and get former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich coach Ottmar Hitzfeld appointed as manager of Newcastle United, and have been getting the attention of national press and TV as well as Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd. Here 4thegame talks to Mick Foster from Hitzfeld For The Toon about the aims of the campaign and what he thinks the future is for fan power in football...

When you started the campaign, did you have Hitzfeld in mind, or was that a later development?
When we started the campaign we already had Hitzfeld in mind, we had debated his strengths and weaknesses for many months and the more we looked at him the more we liked what he had achieved and represented as a person. Hitzfeld went to Dortmund and turned them from a team who were mid-table into a team who actually won the highest ranked trophy in domestic football. It wasn't a fluke because he also had Dortmund as top three regulars and often winners in the German League. When Hitzfeld left Dortmund they went back to the position which they had frequented before he had arrived.
The likes of Martin O'Neill and Steve Bruce amongst others were always considered to be 'the fans' favourite'. A group of fans got together and started the website just to point things out to the media that not all fans want the O'Neills and the Bruces of the world and it all took off from there really with thousands signing up to the site and showing their support of Hitzfeld.


OTTMAR HITZFELD Have you had any contact with Hitzfeld himself?
We have had contact indirectly through a close family member and a journalist who reports for a newspaper in Switzerland where Hitzfeld is based at the minute.

Why do you think he is the right man for the job?
Hitzfeld has built teams to win the Champions League, look at Dortmund both before and after to see the effect the man had on that club. You wouldn't think that he could beat what he did at Dortmund but he did. He went to Bayern Munich and set new records for what must be the greatest managerial record in world football. Hitzfeld built two Champions League winning teams at two different clubs and did that by spending less money than the managers who were at Newcastle during the same time period. This was achieved in a league that is seen as being inferior to at least three domestic European Leagues; England, Italy and Spain.

Do you think Freddy Shepherd will listen to you?
I know he's listening, I can't say that he's taking notice but I do know he's listening, his e-mail to me proves that. The club should listen to fans more because there are none more knowledgeable about the club than those who have no real agenda other than to want and to see their club do the right things, to do well.

If he doesn't and appoints someone else, will you stop campaigning and support the new man?
Once we have a new manager then the campaign is over and the new man gets our support. Freddy Shepherd said words to the effect that Graeme Souness struggled because he didn't have the fans support. That is partly true but not quite accurate; Souness wasn't good enough and was never going to get the fans support. We gave him a chance especially as he was making the right noises. Unfortunately he reverted to type as soon as the first problem arose, his first managerial test ended up in Manager V Player played out on TV in front of millions.
In many ways the campaign exists to publicly show the club that this is the type of manager we require, not another Graeme Souness. There are some fantastic managers out there and while not many are on a level with Hitzfeld, we recognise we aren't exactly in a position to pick and choose.

If he does appoint Hitzfeld and it doesn't work out, what would your reaction be?
Our reaction would be that the football club and chairman had done everything to get things right at the club. I can't see anything to suggest that things wouldn't work out but you never know in life how things are going to turn out. It also depends on what you see as "working out." Two seasons ago and we were challenging for Champions League qualification on the last day of the season, this season we're in March and it's already over. What we need is somebody to come in and look at the club. Somebody needs to come in and see where we have to improve and to make changes over a period of time. I work in industry and we continually make plans which evolve, the club needs to do something along these lines. We genuinely believe he wouldn't fail though, we really do believe he would succeed at Newcastle United, given patience and support on and off the pitch.

What role do you think Alan Shearer should have beyond this summer?
I think he should walk away and spend some time with his family, go on holiday, play golf, basically do something that he's not been able to do for years. Enjoy himself without a care in the world; spend some of that obscene wealth.

Do you think there is a future for fan power like this in football?
In business you're told the customer is always right, we are the customer. I think all clubs should listen to the fans instead of taking them for granted. Gone are the days when you could turn up at a ground on a Saturday and pay a small amount of money to get in to see the team of your choice. If clubs want supporters to spend thousands on tickets and club merchandise then they'll have to listen. Will they? No idea, the forward-thinking clubs will, while others will not and they'll probably pay the price for that.

How do you think clubs could involve fans in decisions like this more than they currently do?
I would love to see a Spanish system taken up in our country where the president is elected but that will not happen. A lot of clubs have fans liaison committees but they are usually made up of puppets and not real supporters who are prepared to speak against the club. I would like to see something done where the fans have a true voice within the club. Not a group of people who pull the club apart just for the sake of it but a body of people who will represent the fans in a true way, a group of people who are not afraid to stand up to the club but I'd prefer this to be done in private rather than in the glare of the media, constructive criticism.

Alan Oliver er en dritt. Anal Oliver må vel være fordi han antakeligvis spanderer mye av sin arbeidstid oppi Fat Freds anal....
Håper iallafall at han ikke klarer å nå frem med sin kampanje for Roeder eller mot Luque og Boumsong. Hadde vært rått om Luque hadde skutt øya ut av trynet på Oliver en gang....
