Newcastle goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman has told Ashley and Pardew they do not need to buy a replacement for Steve Harper and to give Jak Alnwick a chance.

Woodman said:"You can always look at your squad in any department and want to strengthen here and there, but there comes a point when you've got to look at what you've got and promote within,"

"You've got to have belief in these young kids, that's the point of producing them. Jak Alnwick as an example has been putting in performances week in, week out, and not just in games for the under-21s, but also on the training pitch."He trains with the first team pretty much every day and I always think a good gauge of how good these kids are is the respect they gain from the other professionals.

"When you've got people like (Fabricio) Coloccini and (Yohan) Cabaye who have respect for this young goalkeeper, that tells me we've got a boy with something who can progress into a top keeper. We've got a very good goalkeeper coming through, and the department as a whole is healthy."

Kanskje Woodmam burde bli satt som sjef over akademiet. Er jo den eneste som klarer å få frem gode spillere. Krul, Forster og nå kanskje Alnwick er imponerende.

Woodman har vel strengt tatt ikke hatt så mye med Krul og Forster å gjøre før de ble a-lagsmateriale. Paul Barron under Hughton skal nok ha en større del av takken

Og uavhengig av hvem som skal ha æren for hva, så må vi også huske at en god trener ikke nødvendigvis blir en god sjef for andre trenere.  Uten at jeg har noe spesiell kjennskap til Woodman så kan det godt være at han er veldig god hands-on approach til trening av keepere, men det MÅ ikke bety at han er god til mye av det byråkratiske-/kontorarbeidet som sikkert følger med en stilling som sjef over et akademi.

Uansett; utrolig viktig med hver eneste spiller som ses som god nok til å få en sjanse til å erstatte folk som er på vei ut.  Veldig bra for moralen både til spilleren det gjelder, og ikke minst også for alle andre i akademiet som da ser at det faktisk er mulig å trene seg inn i seniorstallen.  Dersom keepertreneren sier at Alnwick er god nok til å få etablert seg som 3. keeper, da syns jeg vi må stole på det og gi ham sjansen.

With both Tim Krul and Rob Elliot now set to miss the rest of this month, the search is on for a goalkeeper to join Newcastle under the provisions of an emergency loan.

Rookie custodian Jak Alnwick made an unexpected debut in senior football on Saturday against Chelsea, but aside from him, United have only England youth duo Freddie Woodman and Paul Woolston to call upon.

With the option to recall Karl Darlow from his loan spell at Nottingham Forest not available, possible signings from other Premier League clubs ahead of Saturday's trip to Arsenal are under consideration - neither Shay Given or Steve Harper are understood to be on that list, but Chelsea's Australian-born 42 year-old reserve Mark Schwarzer has been linked in the tabloids. 

However, issues with the eligibility of the temporary loan signing to play in the Capital One Cup could yet see Alnwick between the posts when United face Spurs at White Hart Lane on Wednesday week.

Damn. Jaja han får vel vist om han er noe a-lagsemne i alle fall... Ingenting ville jo vært kjekkere enn om van grep sjansen!

No to Alnwick by-pass

Enquiries to the Premier League on Monday regarding the potential of an emergency goalkeeper loan brought confirmation that any request would be refused on the grounds that United have two fit registered 'keepers.
 
With both Tim Krul and Rob Elliot now set to miss the rest of this month, rookie custodian Jak Alnwick made an unexpected debut in senior football against Chelsea.

Aside from him, United included teenage trio Freddie Woodman, Brendan Pearson and Paul Woolston in the PL squad list, along with the injured Ben Smith.

It's Karl Darlow though who counts as Newcastle's second fit custodian - despite the fact he can't actually play for his parent club due to the terms of his loan.

Signed from Nottingham Forest in August but loaned back to the Championship side - Darlow wasn't on United's PL player list, unlike fellow Forest signing Jamaal Lascelles.
