Who is Romain Amalfitano?Romain Amalfitano has just signed a three year contract with Newcastle after his contract at Reims expired. The French attacking midfielder has spent his last two seasons at Reims helping them finish second last season and gain promotion to Ligue 1.
Amalfitano is a versatile right footed attacking midfielder who can play on the right side of midfield or through the middle. He came through the Chateauroux academy in 2009 before spending one season at Evian and then joining Reims.
The 22 year old made 27 appearances for Reims last season scoring 3 goals at a rate of 0.11 goals per game for the French League 2 side. Amalfitano also had 5 assists to his name last season, which is an assist every 5.4 matches.
Overall Romain Amalfitano made 65 appearances for Reims in his two seasons at the club, scoring 10 goals at a rate of a goal every 0.15 matches. He also assisted 7 goals in his two seasons at a rate of an assist every 0.11 matches.
Amalfitano is the latest French player to arrive at St.James? Park after Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye and youngsters Yven Moyo and Mehdi Abeid. If Graham Carr was half as impressed with Amalfitano as he was with Ben Arfa and Cabaye then Newcastle could have some player on their hands.
Romain?s older brother Morgan is also a professional footballer who plays for Marseille. Morgan made his France debut against Germany in February setting up Malouda?s goal in the process.
