Would have gladly given up a few days of vacation to be part of the Italian squad in Euro 2012?

 ?It would have been great, but manager Prandelli has made his choices and I have limited myself to cheer for the Blues in front of the TV. They did a great tournament, pity only for the final. We must say that Spain is very strong and when we were in 10 it was almost impossible to result. ?

Are you confident you can return to the National team in the future?

?Well, a little ?think about it. But we must go step by step: if I continue to do well here in the Premier League, then I know I will have my chance. In 2014 there is the World Cup in Brazil, I would love to be there.?

For the moment you are the captain of the Italian U21 side, but the U21 manager Ciro Ferrara will soon be appointed the new coach of Sampdoria ? are you sorry about this?

?I must say the truth,  a bit  of  me  was expecting it. The manager follwoing the last game with Ireland confided that there was  every probability he would go down another road. I I wish him all the very best in Genoa.?

?To me Ferrara has been important, and he has given me back my confidence in what was a difficult moment,  and he gave me the U21 captaincy and lots of  tips. ?

Let?s return to England, and the new season will be starting soon  at Newcastle ? how are things going?

?We are heavily loaded. Last year we almost touched qualification for the Champions League, something Runthinkable earlier this year.? ? Finally we qualified for the Europa League, which the club is always pleased to be part of.?r

?I thought it would be exciting to go to San Siro. But, if I have my choice, I hope not to face Inter-Milan. They?re putting out a good team and as opponents they would be fearsome.?

Both Inter-Milan and Newcastle ? everyone wants Debuchy ? do these things going on in the transfer market bother you ?

?No, I am calm. At the end of last season Newcastle manager Pardew had warned me that his intention was that a new full-back would arrive ? be that  Debuchy or whomever.?

?But  if  he is a good player who can help the team ? that?s good ? and  then we see who the coach will decide to deploy.?

If you?re not convinced, Roma are looking for a new full-back ?

?I know, I know? (Davide laughs).  The Giallorossi showed up a little while ago, but Newcastle immediately refused to let me speak with them.  That?s okay with me.?

?I  am settled in England and I have no intention of  a move.?  ?I?ve only been here a year, it is too early to pack your bags and come back. ?

Santon burde heller ikke være bekymret. Debuchy skal bekle høyrebacken, mens Santon tar venstrebacken. Det tror jeg også er Pardews plan. Jeg ville vært mer bekymret om vi ikke tenkte å hente inn en ny back, all den tid Simpsons kontraktsituasjon er høyst usikker, og vi ikke har annen backup enn Ryan Taylor og reservelagsspillere.

Perch er ingen back. Stopper, evt defensiv midtbane er tingen for han.

Jeg trodde ikke Perch var PL-spiller at all da, syns han greide seg fint der når han spilte litt mot slutten av sesongen som var. Perch er vel strengt tatt en potet. Men enig i at han i større grad passer i de andre posisjonene.

Davide seems happy enough to stay at Newcastle, where he now has a Geordie girlfriend, and he has given an interview in the Journal today and thinks he?s settling in well:

?I feel like I have settled into English football,? he said. ?Maybe it takes time but I think I am now settled and I understand the Premier League better.?  ?Against Aston Villa I think I had a great game but I can do better. I feel good in England now, I want to stay in England for a very long time and I want to help my team for the rest of the season.?

?This summer, there was a chance for me to go to Italy. One or two teams in Italy wanted to take me back but I always wanted to stay in Newcastle. I love Newcastle and I do not want to leave.? 

?I did not want to take that chance because I like my coach, I like my team and I like everything surrounding the club. It is a great club and I feel really good about my future at Newcastle.?

Godt å høre, Santon er en av mine favorittspillere. Jeg syns han får for lite skryt til tider, en av våre bedre(eller minst dårlige) så langt i sesongen, bak Ben Arfa selvsagt.
Utrolig flink til å spille seg ut sammen med Colo og fantastisk teknikk. Han virker også veldig rolig og finner gode løsninger når han er under press.
Det hender han slår noen hodeløse passninger, men syns det har blitt mye færre av dem. Og med årene kommer feilene til å forsvinne.
