James Perch

NEWCASTLE United have today completed the signing of James Perch from Nottingham Forest on a four-year deal.

The 24-year-old, who made 220 appearances for Forest, has signed for an undisclosed fee.

In all, Perch scored 12 goals for the Reds after making his debut as an 18-year-old in August 2004. Last season he made 21 appearances for the Championship side, scoring once.

Perch joined Forest's Academy in 2003 after being on Norwich City's books as a schoolboy, and has shown his versatility by playing across the back-four.

The Mansfield-born player also starred in midfield during his time at the City Ground where he also played under United Assistant Manager Colin Calderwood between 2006 and 2008.

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton was delighted to snap up Perch, a player who was on his radar in the January transfer window and said: "James is a player I've admired for some time and it's great we've been able to secure his services.

"I'm certain he'll prove to be a great addition to our squad."

Cautiously optimistic. Krysser fingrane for at han blir ein fin tilvekst, og ønsker han uansett velkommen til klubben. Artig å vere i gang med ein ny transfersommar!

Desverre ser det ut til at de aller fleste Forest supporterene ikke mener han er noe spesielt. At han var svært skadeplaget forrige sesong, er også noe som uroer meg. MEN han er enda ganske ung, og sikkert sulten på å vise seg frem.

Kommer nok ikke til å herje i PL, men håper han kommer med gode bidrag

Føles litt som et Erik Hoftun-kjøp.
Mannen som kjøper spillere som rundtspilte ham i Adeccoligaen.
Litt sånn som når Rosenborg kjøpte Roy Miller fra Bodø/Glimt.

Har en følelse av at Calderwoods lange fortid i Championship kan være en årsak til at vi av og til kjøper spillere som denne James Perch og Leon Best.

Uansett vil nok Perch hovedsaklig tilføre stallen større bredde, og er neppe hentet inn som en som skal prege Premier League. Og skal vi kjøpe backup, så er det sånne spillere vi må kjøpe.

For all del. Jeg har aldri hørt om fyren før, og var ikke klar over at han spilte mot oss forrige sesong. Så han skal selvfølgelig få en sjanse til å vise seg frem.

Men som sagt, det minner litt om enkelte av Erik Hoftuns kjøp til Rosenborg.

Jeg følgte Forest en del når de var i league 1. Han var en av de største profilene, og fortsatt ung. det kan hende at han har stagnert en del de siste åra, men tviler på at han har blitt dårligere. Vi får håpe at han beviser Forest supporterne feil. At han er en hard-worker med rette holdninger er veldig positivt. Det kommer til å spille en rolle på treningene om ikke annet.
