There is news coming out of the Netherlands today, suggesting Newcastle United have an interest in, and are aggressively pursuing Hamburg captain and Dutch International, Rafael van der Vaart.

The 25 year-old Van der Vaart was in fine form last season, captaining his side to 2nd place in the Bundesliga.

He scored 10 goals last season, and of course some top teams would be interested in the player, if he became officially available.

Chelsea, Juventus and Valencia are said to be keeping tabs on the player, in addition to Newcastle, since the player has so far refused to sign a new contract at his German club.

Sources in Holland however have suggested today that the Dutchman is England bound, and they are reporting that Newcastle are leading the chase for the player.

We?ll not have to get too excited about this, but if Newcastle can capture this player it would be a great signing, to say the very least.

This summer, Newcastle are not too good a proposition for the very top players, hopefully that will be vastly improved next year at this time, but we cannot complain about the club not pursuing the top players.

He?s played 74 times for Hamburg with 29 goals, and before that at Ajax, he played for the top Dutch club 117 times with 52 goals.

The 5′9″ attacking midfielder was born to a Spanish mother and a Dutch father in Heemskerk, in North Holland, and has so far played 53 times for Holland and scored 12 goals.

He could be playing in today?s game against Italy tonight.

Ameobi til Ipswich?

Newcastle United are reported to have accepted a £3.5 million bid from Town for striker Shola Ameobi. The 26-year-old has been widely tipped for a move away from St James? Park during the summer.

Hadde vært fantastisk å fått Van Der Vaart men jeg tror vi har små sjangser da han havner nok all sannsynelig hos de store..

Spennende med bud på Gomis, selv om det selvsagt ikke er bra at Oliver skriver at godeste Wenger ser på ham som en god erstatter til Adebayor.
Van der Vaart er en drøm. Det hadde vært helt sinnsykt rått!

Vi har visstnok vunnet kampen om "den nye Rooney", Aaron Spear fra Plymouth. 15 år gammel er han, og Arsenal, Pompey og spuds har også vært ute etter han. Vistnok Wise som har forhandlet dette frem. Han skulle spilt for reservelaget til Plymouth denne sesongen, hadde det ikke vært for at han ikke var gammel nok.

Er litt rart å tenke på at Van der Vaart ikke har blitt solgt før, hvis han er så sykt god! Han er i allefall god på fm:P

a little info on our new link, my info comes from a moderator on the official HSV website, his alias is Irishrover. I work here in Hamburg with him and he told me the following.

Firstly hello Ed, great job n?all that, but a little inaccurate with the form of Mr Vaart. He has not been at his best this season according to my collegue, but with 10 goals for a Midfielder its not bad compared to the departing Emre.

Also his oppinion of himself is somewhat in the mould of Cisse and or Anelka higher than everyone elses, his attitude for the game is not good and he wants big bucks.

Two seasons ago he was pimping himself out to Valencia, they went backwards and dramatically changed his tune and favoured Juve, we know what happened with them. He was even pictured in Valencia holding there top saying this is wherre I want to play?.whilst a HSV player.

Fans in Hamburg want to see the back of him?.

His contract runs out in 2 years, however, he has a clause that he can leave for 1.5 mil. when he is in the final year. Therefore this is another incentive for HSV to sell.
