- When was the last time he used his pace to scoer a goal, like Bellamy used to.
There's too many Martins fanboys, he's good player only an idiot would deny that but he doesn't play to his strengths.
- For all his reputed speed Martins issnt the fastest dribbler. A number of times he got beyond the last man but couldnt pull away due to his lack of control. Certainly nowhere near as fast as either Dyer or Bellamy running towards goal.
- He hasn't used pace for about a year though
- His biggest failing is that he can't read the game worth a piss. He doesn't see what's about to happen before the players around him do, something you just need to be able to do at the top level of the game. As a result his movement is generally directionless and ineffective. It's why he doesn't get in behind the defense anywhere near as much as he should, or get on the end of a great number of chances in the box. That failing, along with his woeful first touch, are what and likely always will prevent him being a truly top striker.
- Martins with a brain for football would have been amongst the best strikers in the world. ( noe jeg er helt enig i, men uten hjernen er han ikke spesielt god)
- And so ends the career at SJP of the poorest Newcastle number 9 in many a year.
- the guy had no brain and only plays for himself good riddance to the worst number 9 for a long long time
- Sometimes he tried hard. A decent amount of the time he looked completely uninterested.
- As for the "he can create something out of nothing" crap, what's the point of that if he can't finish a bowl of soup?
- Seriously, when was the last time he "created something out of nothing?" He's bloody hopeless.
- No, we need a quick striker who uses his pace to effect.
- Martins won't and hasn't improved as a footballer since he played his first game.
- He's basically got no composure. A few of those times he had longer that what he thought. If he didn't have the insistance of trying to take the net off when he shot, he'd have put a couple of those away I reckon.
- It blows me away when people say he's one of the few that actually cares. If he gave any less effort some days, he'd probably fall asleep on the halfway line. Be glad to get rid of him tbh. When he first came, he looked up for the fight. Now he gives his all when he feels like it and couldn't give two f***s the rest of the time.
- Showed in the run in that he's s****. Chances at Spurs, Pompey and Villa just off the top of my head, if he'd have taken one we'd still be up.
- I reckon he'll go for 4m if the buyer is drunk.
- Countless times Edgar had the ball at right back with nothing on and Martins didn't notice the massive gap down the line. Infuriating, just stood in the middle, makes completely the wrong runs as well, one time Guthrie broke forward and Oba instead on running across the defender allowing Guthrie a simple slide pass into him, went the other way meaning Guthrie had a difficult pass that he had to thread through the defender and the keeper. Clueless.
- the way he plays reminds me of Cisse:
All pacy runs, lashing the ball wildly into row Z and never on the same wavelength of team mates
- I think if Shearer does stay Martins will be very high on his 'OUT' list after the Stoke debacle. Whether we had stayed up or not.
- Nah, Bassong's good, Martins isn't. Do you understand the difference?
Under-rated, over-rated, whatever. Fact is that he's rubbish.
- If only Martins could finish a chance as well as he can finish a drink down the quayside.
- Never looked like a £10m striker and won't miss him at all tbh. He's had the odd flash of brilliance and scored some important goals but never really did it.
Running about like a headless chicken doesn't warrant £70,000 a week imo.
- Never improved his game whilst here - infact he has got worse.
- Could have been a true great here, but turned out to be another gutless coward
- You missed congratulating him for missing enough sitters in the run in to have kept us up. He was awesome pulling out of the Stoke game 4hrs before KO. this after Shearer had worked on a system all week in training.
- Never understood how someone who was generally so ineffective, often disinterested and ultimately part of a relegation team got so much fan adulation. In recent years we've had players who took us into Europe and were openly hated.
Good riddance.
Det var selvsagt også personer der inne som mener Martins er en god spiller, men flertallet var i mot ham. Jeg er i denne saken enig med flertallet og blir ikke lei meg når han forsvinner fra klubben...
