Well, I've given myself a day to cool off on this one, unlike my tirade when we played Wolves last time, when I was annoyed enough about the boo's to write something and post it on HTT. I'm getting very, very hacked off when I'm at the match. It's been building up for quite some time, but the almost total silence throughout, broken up by the regular, collective sighs that ring around the ground at the slightest error by anybody, is becoming too much to take. I am a supporter, I don't want to be part of an audience as though at a theatre or something. The players need support, not moans and groans. I am more than prepared to criticise players away from the match, here on the forum or in a pub, but the atmosphere is shite at the SJP and has been for a long time now, with the odd exception depending on the opposition. That in itself is quite damning as far as I'm concerned. I've been going to the match for 37 years, I've never regularly gone to away matches, although I have been to quite a few over the years. I bought my first season ticket for the old stand paddock in 73/74, and have therefore seen us when we were absolutely rubbish, and I've seen us be relegated more than once. I'm not naive enough, or my memory isn't so short, to not realise that there were disgruntled people on the terrace's over those years, but the pleasure of going to matches is being ruined by the very poor atmosphere in the ground now. I know people can point at things such as all seating, and doesn't help, but it's not the real problem imo. I suspect I know what the problem really is. I hear the most moaning around me coming from the older people, I seriously suspect that many of the moaners and sighers in the ground are those older people who could have gone to matches in the 60's, 70's or 80's but didn't, they started going when KK built us a great team, these people have no patience when the football is poor in comparison to what they jumped on the bandwagon to watch, and they show their displeasure. I don't think many of them are that interested and I wish they'd bugger off. In fact, some people near me yap on throughout the match about stuff that is nothing to do with the match, or even football, they don't appear to show any interest except to criticise an individual when a pass isn't perfect. Interestingly, the pass doesn''t simply have to be to an opponent in error, it just has to be short of being 'perfect' to fire these people off. And there are many others as the sighs that ring around the ground when this happens is a disgrace imo. I'm seriously thinking about not renewing my season tickets for next season, instead I'm contemplating buying tickets for the away matches, where I'll be surrounded by people I believe will support the team properly. Sorry, like. Just had to get it off my chest.
The Toon Ultras are a group of Newcastle United supporters with the intent of bringing the atmosphere back to St James' Park, something which we feel has been missing for a number of years. We are not Hooligans, or Racists. We call ourselves 'Ultras' to try and emulate the atmosphere of certain clubs in Europe, with the use of: Banners, Flags, Scarves etc without losing the original character of fellow Newcastle United supporters. You can come and join us in the Leazes End, level 7 (mainly in blocks H and J) for all cup games. We put emphasis firmly on supporting the team, enjoying ourselves, but most importantly, bringing back the cauldron like atmosphere of years gone by. Howay The Lads - The Toon Ultras
