Ja, det stemmer ganske godt. Mener jeg leste en artikkel på Newcastle-Online om nettopp dette. Der skrev de det samme som deg. At Boro kvalifiserte seg til UEFA-Cup gjennom ligaen betyr altså at Newcastle får en uke lengre fri. Ikke det at de fortjener det, men...  :roll:

Jeg tror sjansen til å kvalifisere seg til UEFA Cupen via Intertoto cupen i år blir meget vanskelig. Kanskje vanskeligere enn på mange år. På Nufc.com er det en liste over hvilke lag som allerede skal være med i denne cupen, og hvilke som fortsatt venter på svar fra UEFA. Som kjent skal det være 3 finaler i Intertoto cupen, og de 3 vinnerne kommer direkte inn i UEFA Cupen. Jeg frykter følgende lag i Intertoto cupen:

Valencia
Deportivo La Coruna
Borussia Dortmund
Wolfsburg
Hamburg
Marseille - Dette laget venter på svar
Lens
Messina - Dette laget venter på svar

Dette blir meget tøft for oss. Nå møter vi vel riktignok noen dårlige lag i de første rundene, men når vi kommer lenger uti turneringen kommer vi ikke til å unngå å møte noen av disse kanonene. Jeg håper for guds skyld at vi unngår Valencia, spesielt.

Er enig at det kommer til å bli tøft, men det har vist seg tidligere at spanske lag er i svært dårlig form på denne tiden av året. De starter serien senere enn PL, og jeg tror vi har en god sjanse om vi får et spansk lag.

RBK - Deportivo er et godt eksempel på det.

Verken Valencia, Dortmund, Deportivo eller Lens er lenger det de en gang var. Alle "sliter" mer eller mindre i hjemlig liga, hvertfall tatt ambisjonene i betraktning. Det samme kan selvsagt sies om Newcastle, men de laga som har søkt seg inn i Intertoto er ikke så gode som mange tror. Marseille er vel det vanskeligste laget her, etterfulgt av Valencia og Hamburg.

Sat/ Sun 25 / 26th June: First Round. We're interested in tie 10, which is scheduled to be Vasas against Dubnica, with the first leg in Budapest.

Sat / Sun 9th / 10th July: Second Round. We play the winners of tie K, between the aforementioned first round qualifiers and Ankaraspor (second leg in Ankara).

Sat / Sun 16 / 17th July &
Sat 23rd July: Third Round.
We are away first then at home to either a Hungarian, Slovakian or Turkish side.

Wed 27th July & Wed 3rd August: Semi-Final
Draw for this is made between Second and Third Rounds (10th and 16th July).

Vasas are famed as the only side the mackems have ever beaten in their short (4 game) European history.

13th place in their domestic league this season ensured qualification after the likes of Ujpest, Pecs, Honved and Videoton all elected not to enter the competition (like Newcastle, the rule about finishing in the top 12 of the league isn't apparently being enforced.)

Should Vasas get through to face us, then we'll be making our fourth appearance in Hungary, after Fairs Cup trips to face the aforementioned Ujpest and Pecs, plus a 1996/97 game in the UEFA Cup against Budapest-based side Ferencvaros.

Vasas play at the Fáy útcai stadium, which has a claimed capacity of 18,000 and is situated in the 13th district of the city - also known as Angyalföld (Angel's Field).

District XIII is on the Pest side of the Danube, to the North of the city centre.

Vasas were originally an ironworks side who dominated Hungarian football in the early 1960s, with four domestic championships won between 1961 and 1966.

They've since fallen from grace and like many Hungarian sides experienced financial hardship.

Defea by AEK Athens in the qualifying stages of the 2000/01 UEFA Cup was their last "proper" European involvement and this will be the fourth time that they've entered the Intertoto Cup.

Their best run in that competition to date has been elimination at the third round stage 1999 by Polonia Warsaw, after having entered in the first round.

FK ZTS Dubnica are no strangers to the Intertoto Cup, beating an Albanian team in the first round last season but then going out to Slovan Liberec, who went on to be losing finalists.

They also managed to win one tie in the 2003/04 competition, overcoming a Cypriot side before losing to Koper of Slovenia.



Also known as Kerametal Dubnica, they play their home games at the 8,000 capacity Centralny Stadium in the town of Dubnica nad Vahmon, which has a tradition of armaments production.

BB Ankaraspor come from the Turkish capital of Ankara and were promoted into the top domestic division last season - a move which saw them sign no less than 15 new players who had experience of playing at the top level.

 

Along with fellow Turkish Superleague side Gençlerbirligi SK and MKE Ankaragücü, Ankaraspor used the 23,000 capacity 19th May Stadium (pictured below) for some league games last season.

 

However their usual venue appears to be The smaller (5,000) capacity Aktepe Stadium (pictured below), where a range of sports sides playing under the Ankaraspor banner are based.



Possibly their highest-profile player is Serbia & Montengro's international goalkeeper Dragoslav Jevric, who moved to Turkey earlier this year after six seasons with Vitesse Arnhem that had followed four years at Red Star Belgrade.
