NEWCASTLE United supporters could be set to enjoy their first glimpse of highly-rated Slovenian starlet Haris Vuckic after he was named in the squad for Wednesday's Carling Cup showdown with Huddersfield Town.
Vuckic, who turned 17 last week, has continued during pre-season to demonstrate flashes of the prodigious talent which saw the Magpies beat off competition from a host of clubs to capture his signature in a January switch from Slovenian side NK Domzale.
Goals and eye-catching displays for both United's reserves and juniors, allied with a player of the tournament and top goalscorer haul from an Academy competition in Bosnia at the end of last season, has seen Vuckic widely tipped to make a breakthrough into the first-team set-up over the coming months.
And that inaugural involvement could come against the Terriers after boss Chris Hughton confirmed to nufc.co.uk that the attacking midfielder, who trained with the senior squad on Tuesday, could play some part at Gallowgate.
"Haris is in the squad," he said.
"He's a young player who is very talented.
"He's done very well during pre-season and last year impressed for the reserves and juniors.
"He deserves his chance in the first-team squad and he could play some part tomorrow night." nufc.co.uk
