Generelt / Dyer avslører litt av hvert!
« på: 21. Feb. 2006, 16:52 »

Transfers / Souness interessert i spanske stjerner

Sou keen on Spanish duo

Nov 23 2005

By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle

Newcastle United are keeping tabs on two Spanish midfielders, Real Betis's Joaquin and Ruben Baraja of Valencia.

Acting chief scout David Mills will be at Anfield tonight to run the rule over Joaquin as Real Betis go in against Liverpool in the Champions League.

I understand that Graeme Souness has already spoken to his Spanish international Albert Luque about his fellow countryman and liked what he heard.

Indeed, Luque was heard discussing the merits of Joaquin and Baraja with fellow Spaniard Asier del Horno after United's game with Chelsea on Saturday.

Mills will provide a report on Joaquin and the manager himself is likely to watch the proceedings from Anfield on television.

And if Souness wants to know more about Baraja, he can always ask his former United players Patrick Kluivert and Hugo Viana, who are playing alongside the 30-year-old former Atletico Madrid midfielder at Valencia.

Baraja was in the Valencia side which won the Spanish title under Rafael Benitez, who is interested in taking him to Liverpool.

The 24-year-old Joaquin has 33 caps and is regarded as one of the best players in Spain, but despite this, Real Betis are languishing second bottom in La Liga.

After handing over £50m to Souness in the past 12 months, chairman Freddy Shepherd will be looking to his manager to wheel and deal in the transfer market in January.

That's why talk of United signing strikers Mark Viduka and Nicolas Anelka in January could not be wider of the mark, with the fees which Middlesbrough and Fenerbahce will want for the two strikers prohibitive.

While United are currently well off in midfield, Souness said last week that he was of the opinion that Lee Bowyer was eventually looking to return south.

And United will not be completely happy about Kieron Dyer until the little midfielder has half a dozen games under his belt this season.

In the meantime, all Souness can do is to build up a dossier on players he would like to sign if he gets the nod from the board and that is what he is doing.

Lee Sharpe?

INTER Milan full-back Francesco Coco was flying into Tyneside on Thursday to discuss a possible move to Newcastle United.

Coco, who turned 28 on Monday, started his career with Vicenza in 1997/98 before moving to AC Milan in 2000. He was at Milan for two years, during which time he had a loan spell at Barcelona where he made 31 times for the Catalan club.

He moved to Inter as part of the deal that took Clarence Seedorf in the opposite direction. He played against Newcastle in the 2-2 Champions League draw between Newcastle and Inter in the San Siro back in March 2003.

United have been looking to boost their defensive options further following the arrival of centre-back Craig Moore.

Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd told nufc.co.uk: "Francesco Coco is flying into Newcastle from Italy today for talks."

Coco, once dubbed "the new Paolo Maldini" by the Italian press, is a former team-mate of new Magpie midfielder Emre from their days together at Inter.

He has been linked with a move to the Premiership in the past, and has also attracted interest from the likes of Ajax and Olympiakos.

Capped 17 times by Italy, Coco made two appearances for his country in the 2002 World Cup, including the elimination at the hands of co-hosts South Korea.

Transfers / Craig Moore på vei
« på: 23. Juli 2005, 17:39 »
United have again been linked with a move for free agent defender Craig Moore - with the Chronicle confirming that we are in talks with the Australian international.

The story has been confirmed by Graeme Souness, who tried to sign the player back when he was in charge at Blackburn.

The 29 year-old (known as Oz) has been without a club since he was dumped by German outfit Borussia Munchengladbach with a year still remaining on his contract.

Having moved from Glasgow Rangers to Germany in January 2005, Moore was sacked in May, amid allegations he turned up for training in an  intoxicated state.

Borussia sporting director Peter Pander said at the time:

"Players must be professionals and I can not accept what Craig  did."

"We have cancelled his contract for this reason. We have not given him a send-off because we do not want to see him again."

However the player vehemently denied the accusations and claimed he had reached a prior agreement to leave the club this summer.

Moore has been linked with Crystal Palace, Preston North End, Manchester City and the Smogs in recent weeks and although unattached, has played for his country last month in the Confederations Cup out in Germany.

And had he not fallen out with his previous German employers, he would have been in line for a playing return to Glasgow today (Saturday), as Munchengladbach provide the opposition to Rangers in a pre-season game at Ibrox.

United were also linked with a move for Moore in 2004, during Sir Bobby Robson's reign.

So we flog O'Brien and Hughes for piddling amounts, then bring in an older free transfer defender who plays his international football on the other side of the world.

That can only be taken as further proof that our finances remain under a tight rein and the previous excesses at the club are now having to be balanced by prudency.

Be it the injury to Bramble, a failure to bring in more cash for outgoing transfers or the declaration by Bowyer that he intends to sit here and take his money then the signs are increasingly clear.

For Souness the deal makes sense in that he doesn't eat into the funds he has to make much-needed forward acquisitions.

Watching from the outside though, it's hardly a signing to set the pulses racing - looking positively at it though, he has played with Boumsong previously at Rangers.

And for every big bucks acquisition we've made to improve our defence (Marcelino etc.) then we've also brought in cheap and cheerful options that have been no worse - Dumas springing to mind.

Saksa fra nufc.com.

Transfers / Lee Bowyer på vei til Brums
« på: 14. Juni 2005, 15:10 »
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/birmingham_city/4092468.stm

Birmingham hope to sign Newcastle's Lee Bowyer after opening transfer talks.

He is understood to have opened discussions with Birmingham after being given permission by Newcastle.

Birmingham chairman David Gold is keen to bring the 28-year-old midfield man to St Andrews and said: "Lee Bowyer's record speaks for itself.

"We know that Steve Bruce is special in getting the best out of players with his man-management skills. He has shown that on so many occasions."

It is understood that Birmimgham would be reluctant to pay a major transfer fee for Bowyer - if they have to match his current £45,000-a-week wages.

They may be willing to part with around £500,000 if Bowyer helped to keep them in the Premiership for another season - but little more than that.

Bowyer has also been mentioned as a possible transfer target for West Ham.

GRAEME SOUNESS will make Inter Milan star Belzoglu Emre his first summer signing for Newcastle.

Turkish left-sided midfielder Emre (right) has agreed to join the Toon for £4million despite interest from Everton.

Emre starred in the 2002 World Cup finals.

Må innrømme at jeg liker dette :D
