Big Terry McDermott interview with Craig Hope on Newcastle World, where he talks about all the usual things, but finishes off speaking about Arthur Cox's return to the NUFC staff...

"I'd like to think we've got 3 people at the club at the minute who, absolutely, would die for this club and, hopefully, hopefully, in a day or two - or maybe a bit more - we might have a fourth one."

The smile he gives at the very end, just after saying it, says it all for me - as does Craig Hope's chuckle.

It might turn out to be somebody else, but I'm fairly certain after seeing that interview that he's hoping for Shearer, who is due back from Uganda this weekend.

Generelt / Gullit åpner kjeften igjen
« på: 18. Jan. 2008, 21:28 »
Han er vel ikke helt på jordet denne gang.

"I think the expectations at Newcastle are so incredibly high that maybe they are not realistic for the people who go to work there," Los Angeles Galaxy coach Gullit said.

"Newcastle is such a big club and I think they have had great coaches and some big names - Sam Allardyce, Glen Roeder, Graeme Souness, Bobby Robson, Kenny Dalglish - and therefore it is not about the coaches, it is much more complex than that.

"With Sam Allardyce it was incredible - once he was talked of with the national team and now nothing, and I think again they haven't been realistic there with him. It is not possible there, just not possible.

"Also you have the local press, who have big expectations and big ambitions, and it is not realistic what they ask.

"The most difficult part is that they have to compete with teams who are much more attractive than Newcastle are.

"Most big players and promising young players go to Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.

"It means that none of the biggest players want to go there (Newcastle) which is a major a difficulty that you have to deal with."

Gullit has also ruled out the prospect of a dramatic upturn in Newcastle's league form despite the return of Keegan.

"No, he won't do it. It is not realistic to expect that," Gullit added.

"For the simple reason that the other clubs have a huge advantage because they have the best youngsters and the best players in all these other teams. So it is going to be difficult and it is not realistic.

"A realistic goal is that he needs to have the time to build a team and maybe then in the future they can compete in the league."

Generelt / Chris Mort intervju på Newcastle Radio
« på: 18. Jan. 2008, 16:30 »
Det viktigste av hva han sa.

- Thought it would be impossible to get him back.
- Talked to some of Kevs friends who set up a meeting with him.
- Kev showed he still has the enthusiam.
- Deal didn't take long.
- Put a shortlist together.
- Wanted to do all our business discretely.
- Felt sorry for the fans in the process, because he didn't feel he could deny every name that came up in the press.
- DID NOT offer Harry Redknapp the job. Interviewed him, and talked about financial terms as they did with every candidate to see if they were interested, but DID NOT OFFER HIM THE JOB.
- They had 80+ managers wanting the job, but they knew the man they wanted from the beginning, so did not pursue most of them.

Generelt / Hvem blir Keegans assistent?
« på: 17. Jan. 2008, 10:45 »
Alan Shearer har allerede hintet at han vil ha jobben, men det er langt fra sikkert at Keegan velger han. Sky Sports linker i dag Coleman til Newcastle, som onsdag var ferdig som Real Sociedad manager.

Transfers / Nolan neste mann inn?
« på: 08. Jan. 2008, 09:37 »

Des. 2007, 22:07 »
Newcastle are set to make a bid for Hungarian starlet Tamas Kadar, according to reports.

It is reported in Hungary by Obudaisport that St James' Park boss Sam Allardyce is considering a £650,000 move for the 17-year-old Zalaegerszeg defender.

Kadar is keen on a move when the January transfer window opens after recently undergoing a trial with Newcastle and playing in a friendly against Hartlepool.

When in England Kadar also spent time with Bolton, but Newcastle appear to have the edge as they would want the teenager - who has played for Hungary's Under 21 side - to ease their central defensive problems in the future.

"I really enjoyed being in England," Kadar told Skysports.com.

"In Bolton they would count me as a left-sided defender and in Newcastle I would play in the centre of the defence. I admit this (central) is my favourite place on the pitch.

"I know nothing about the financial details, but I did my very best and I know they both liked my performances.

"I was told that I would have a good chance to sign in England and my move might be realized in the winter transfer period."

Transfers / Bud inne på Rumener?
« på: 16. Des. 2007, 16:19 »
NEWCASTLE are on the trail of Romanian Under-21 international defender Stefan Mardare.

Sources close to the centre-back’s club side, FC Vaslui, claim United have tabled a £1 million bid ahead of the January transfer window.

And the Magpies’ new Eastern European scout, Vic Halom, has also been eyeing Mardare’s club-mate, Serbian midfielder Marko Ljubinkovic.

Mardare, who has just turned 20, has also caught the eye of Everton, despite being halfway through only his second season in the Romanian top flight.

Vaslui turned down bids of around £700,000 for Mardare from both Rapid Bucharest and Steaua Bucharest in the summer.

TOWN'S teenage defender Ben Tozer is set to sign for Barclays Premier League Newcastle United for £1.1million.

Club director Bob Holt this morning confirmed an offer for the youngster had been made and the Swindon Advertiser understands it will be accepted tomorrow.

Tozer, who has made just a handful of first team appearances, has been at the centre of a bidding war between Premier League sides Everton, Portsmouth and Newcastle and it appears the Magpies have got their man.

advertisementThe news comes as the long-awaited takeover of the club by Wiltshire businessman Andrew Fitton looks set to come to a head.

Fitton told www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk last night that both parties' lawyers are now just checking the wording of the contract and, if acceptable, the deal will go ahead tomorrow.

''Providing the lawyers agree the documentation, which they should do, the deal will go ahead,'' he said.

''Monday morning is now the critical time.''

Transfers / Danny Szetela klar for Newcastle?
« på: 31. Aug. 2007, 10:29 »
An interesting story has emerged from the other side of the Atlantic which although remaining unconfirmed, contains more detail than would normally be expected from an invented tale:

From the Goal website:

Columbus Crew and U.S. U20 midfielder Danny Szetela (pictured) has rejected a four-year deal to join Italian Serie A side Roma before the close of the summer transfer window.

Instead, the 20-year-old New Jersey native has entered into an agreement to join Newcastle of the English Premier League on January 1.

The news means Szetela will remain with the Columbus through the end of the 2007 season.

The team is currently in 5th place in the Eastern Conference, and one point behind the Colorado Rapids in the race for the final playoff spot.

Ever since Szetela put in a head-turning performance at this summer’s FIFA Under-20 World Cup, several European clubs have been chasing his signature.

Rumors of a move to EPL club Everton were unfounded, according to sources, but both Roma and crosstown rivals Lazio were reportedly in the running to secure his services.

Szetela has made 34 appearances since joining Columbus in 2004 as a 17 year old on the strength of a fine display at the 2003 U-17 World Cup in Finland. Standing at 5’11” (1.80 m), 175-pound (79 kg), he can provide a strong presence in the middle of the park, distribute well, and is capable of joining the attack when the opportunity presents itself, as evidenced by his three goals in this summer’s U-20 World Cup.

His MLS career has not been as stellar. To date, he has not scored a goal for the Black & Gold and posted only three assists in four years. But he has been plagued with injuries, including a broken left foot, a sprained right knee, and a concussion. In 2006, he saw action in only 4 matches due to injuries.

The terms or length of the Newcastle deal were not divulged.

Transfers / Big Sam vil ha Juninho?
« på: 30. Aug. 2007, 10:16 »
